Keyword Research

First of all, be sure you have identified the niche you want to move into. A niche is simply a very targeted market. I.E. weight loss for mothers vs. weight loss. You probably won't have very much success ranking well for the broader term instead you target much more specific markets.

1) Begin with a list of keywords that you would like to rank for.
2) Bookmark
Google's free keyword research tool and Wordtracker
3) Once you have compiled a list of base keywords, its time to head over to google's keyword research tool.(Please note that google and wordtracker sometimes contradict each-other when displaying search counts. The basic rule of thumb is that if it is searched for at-least 25 times a day(-wordtracker-) or 700/month(-google's-) keyword then it is most likely a very good keyword.
4) You want to choose keywords that have less than 50,000 competitive sites.
5) Maximum searches/less than 50,000 competing sites.
6) Here is how you find the amount of competing site. Take your keyword and type it in google surrounded by quotes.(like this "keyword" ) If google shows that it has less than 50,000 competing sites(shown in the upper right hand corner of the site) then it is a keyword that will work for you.(as long as it gets enough searches)
7) Make a list of about 10-15 new keywords that you have found.
8) Now that you have some decent keywords, move on to the next step.
